Walter N. Guffey

May God be with you and give you comfort.

My mom, Rebecca McWhorter (nee Edwards) and my Uncle Murphy Mull were first cousins to Walter. I met Walter once back in -- 1982, I think it was. My mom and I came down to visit the Tryon area. I met Aunt Elsie, and as I recall Walter lived across the street from her. I remember Elsie was surprised I'd never had grits before. And I remember a lot of kindness and love.

I know that Walter visited with Murphy

I know that Walter visited with Murphy in later years and took him around to different spots as he worked on the family's genealogy. And I know Murphy really appreciated Walter's friendship.

My grandma, Mary Lee Guffey Hardin, was Walter's aunt. So, we are distant cousins. Walter was an asset at Belks and then later on at McMahan's. He was such a gentleman and always carried himself with great dignity. He had such a pleasant smile everytime I saw him. He will be missed. We have lost a fine man. Our family sends their love and prayers to Walter's family. Ramona Hall
