John Summey, age 75, of Rutherfordton, died Tuesday, July 1, 2014, at Rutherford Regional Medical Center. He was a native of Henderson County and was the son of the late Joseph Alfred Summey and Reba Adkins Masters. He was of the Baptist faith, custodian at East Rutherford High School and a Wal-Mart greeter. John loved to paint artwork on gourds. He was an US Navy Vietnam Veteran and served as an electronics engineer in Squadron Thirty Three. He served on the USS. Franklin D. Roosevelt, USS. America, and USS. Independance. He was proceeded in death by two brothers.

He is survived by his wife; Ruth Summey.

Cindy Arrowood and her husband Donnie of Spindale

One Son:
Richard Summey of California

Five brothers and three sisters

The family will receive friends from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM, prior to the service. The Funeral service will be at McMahan's Funeral Home at 1:00 PM, Saturday, July 5, 2014 with Rev. Dean Baughn officiating. Interment will be at Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery, in Black Mountain, NC on Monday, July 7, 2014 at 10:00 AM.
