Patriotic Emblem

Jim N. Miller, age 94, of Waterloo, SC, died Sunday, September 1, 2013, at Hospice House of Laurens County in Clinton, SC. A native of Rutherford County he was the son of the late Samuel E. and Birdie Huntley Miller. Jim entered in the the Civilian Conservation Corp at the age of 18, which led to a career in the U.S. Army. He enlisted into the army at Fort McPherson GA, shortly after turning 21. Jim was in the Signal Corps and attained the rank of Master Sergeant in 1943. Approximately half of his military service was overseas in places like Iran, Russia, Iraq, Austria, Hungary, Formosa and Thailand. In the states, he served in South Carolina, Georgia, Virginia and Washington D.C. He retired from military service in 1961 and spent the next 50 years farming in Waterloo, S.C. Jim was of the Baptist Faith.

A graveside service will be held at Union Methodist Church Cemetery in Rutherfordton at 11:00 AM, Thursday, September 5, 2013 with Rev. Clyde Rollins officiating. The Rutherford County Honor Guard will serve as pallbearers and provide military honors.
