Clifford C. "Tip" Carpenter, age 81, of Mount Vernon Community of Forest City, NC, died Monday, February 17, 2014, at Rutherford Regional Medical Center.

Tip was a member of First Baptist Church of Rutherfordton. He was the son of the late Charles & Lucy York Carpenter and a native of Rutherford County. He was a U. S. Army veteran. He was retired from Bell South Telephone Company after 30 plus years of service. Tip rode and trained American Saddle Bred horses all his life.

He is survived by his wife; Jean T. Carpenter.

Amy Carpenter Toney

Two Sons:
Mark C. Carpenter and his wife Donna
Scott Carpenter

One Brother:
Max Carpenter of Lenoir, NC

Four Grandchildren: Lee Carpenter, Katie Carpenter, Nathan Beason and Rozalyn Toney.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Tuesday at McMahan's Funeral Home. The Funeral service will be at First Baptist Church of Rutherfordton at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, February 19, 2014 with Rev. Tim Marsh and Rev. Dean Baughn officiating. Interment will be at Mount Vernon Baptist Cemetery. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church Building Fund; P O Box 839; Rutherfordton, N.C. 28139.
